James McGregor (Charles Sheen) is a former San Francisco cop who is now a celebrity serial killer profiler. He goes to Scotland to discover his Scottish roots and also to try to get away from his demons, which seem to be alcoholism and...well...alcoholism. When a serial killer begins killing the women of Glasgow, at first McGregor is a suspect but then he begins working with the authorities to try to apprehend the evildoer before he strikes again. Will Charles use all his serial killer knowledge to prevent another killing?
Albert Pyun once again proves - as if further proof was needed - that he’s a talentless human being with this dour drama that struggles to hold the viewers’ interest. Sure, it might be a mild improvement on earlier Pyun disasters, but that’s not saying much. The fact that it’s a Charles outing should be another red flag. Of course, once we see him smoking, drinking and acting crazy, we thought Postmortem might be a documentary about Sheen’s life, but that turned out to be a false alarm.
This is a very standard “chasing a serial killer” movie, and this plot has been done countless times, and it was perfected by TV shows like Criminal Minds. Pyun brings nothing new to the table. The Scottish locations are somewhat interesting, and the movie is certainly buoyed somewhat by them and the Scottish actors. But Sheen seems miscast as someone named “McGregor”. It seems to be something of a misuse of Sheen.
Sheen was hitting the skids, Pyun is usually on the skids, and the whole thing is kind of a mess. Postmortem has zero sense of pacing and thus “PostBoredom” is a more accurate name.

I thought "Charles" was OK here, but you're right, this was a dour, dull, and depressing movie for the most part.
Totally agree! If this was shortened by 15 minutes or so, this could have been tolerable.
Yikes! Thanks for the warning, I'll avoid this one for the near future. I remember this was when Sheen wanted to be taken more seriously as an "actor" and changed his name to Charles instead of Charlie. I remember that change not lasting very long. lol. Great review!

This is one of his weakest ones...worse than Free Money. Haha.
I think Pyun is generally pretty talented, the Nemesis films, Omega Doom, Dangerously Close, Down Twisted, Bulletface, Hong Kong 97, Ravenhawk, and several of his others films were pretty good, but I agree that this film is definitely not one of his finer efforts, and I don't think even the most talented director could do much of anything with the weak script this film has.
Also I actually kind of enjoyed Free Money because of how off-the-wall it was, Marlon Brando's performance alone made it worth watching, seeing him with "jesus" tattoed on his forehead, tazering Sheen and Church and shooting escaping prisoners was priceless.
Ive seen it a few months ago..and it wasnt eaxctly mindblowing...

Venom: We liked Dangerously Close. It was one of his better efforts in our opinion. Down Twisted was a bit weak though. Not much happened.
Hellford: Postmortem was just too slow-paced and boring. If it just tried a bit harder with the writing and pacing, it could have been decent.
Still love Pyun's "Sword & the Sorcerer" cheesy fantasy mayhem baby!

I'll admitt, he's made some ropey movies in the past (those 'Snoop Dogg' movies were dire) but he seems passionate enough to be still in the business of movie-making (despite the obvious lack of megabuck budgets)
I think the "he’s a talentless human being" remark was a bit harsh. The guy made TICKER (which makes him ok in my books) not to mention, MEAN GUNS, NEMISIS and SWORD AND THE SORCERER.
You're right, it is a little harsh, but i think it was because we saw 3-4 bad Pyun movies in a row ending with Postmortem.
He did comment on our Cyborg review. From his comment, he does look like he has a sense of humor about himself.
I remember watching this and stopping it about thirty minutes in. Absurd.
